Aurora is Oregon's antique capital, and the dealers agree, because they come here to shop too. Downtown is walkable, so park once and give yourself an afternoon. Colony era furniture, estate silver, garden salvage, and at least one thing you'll have to explain to whoever's in the car.
The town is the other half of it. Aurora started in 1856 as a utopian colony whose members crossed the Oregon Trail to build a place where everything was shared, and in 1974 it became Oregon's first National Historic District. The Aurora Colony Museum still keeps the old ox barn and colony houses open.
Come the second weekend of August for Aurora Colony Days, or the first weekend of December for the Wine and Chocolate Walk. Half an hour south of Portland on 99E.
