Silverton was founded in 1854 and still looks the part, with stately homes under old oaks a few blocks from a downtown full of murals, shops, and good places to eat. It's the closest town to Silver Falls State Park, where the Trail of Ten Falls takes you behind a 177 foot wall of water at South Falls. It's also home to The Oregon Garden, 80 acres of display gardens on the hill above town, and the Gordon House on the same grounds, the only Frank Lloyd Wright house in Oregon open to the public.
The calendar stays full. Strawberry Festival on Father's Day weekend, the Pet Parade in May when kids walk everything from dogs to goats down Main Street, the Homer Davenport Festival and the Art Festival in August, Sidewalk Shindig in October, and Christmas lights through the Garden from late November into January. Silverton calls itself Oregon's Garden City, and between the falls, the Garden, and the farms and vineyards in every direction, it earns it.
The Oregon Garden is a beautiful botanical garden with over 80 acres of more than 20 specialty gardens. These gardens showcase the beauty of the Willamette Valley and the Pacific Northwest. The Garden also offers a gift shop, café and retail nursery.
